DIGITAL INDIA AND pASSENGER AMENITIES INITIATIVES

Three social media platforms were established by Indian Railways on Facebook, Twitter and Also You Tube together with the handle @railminindia. Ministry of Railways used first of its sort, a real time 24×7 public grievance system and provided passengers that are travelling with medical, security and other emergency aid

Time limit for booking reserved tickets was raised to 120 days w.e.f. 01.04.2015
Destination alert and wake up alarm services established on 139

Paperless unreserved ticketing including Paperless Platforms tickets through mobile phone introduced in suburban segments of Western Railway, Central Railway, South Central Railway, Southern Railway, Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway

INFRASTRUCTURE CREATION AND SUPPORT TO MAKE IN INDIA INITIATIVE



Indian Railways has taken a giant leap forward in ‘Make in India’ drive by signing Understanding for setting up of Diesel Locomotive Factory (DLF) at Marhowra, Saran district, Bihar for procurement as well as maintenance of mainline most modern high power Diesel Electric Locomotives with M/s GE Diesel Locomotive Pvt. Ltd. A different deal signed for setting up of electric locomotive factory at Madhepura, Bihar for maintenance and procurement of most modern high power electric locomotives, both major PPP and FDI bids of Indian Railways. This could be among the greatest FDI’s in India amounting to order book of nearly Rs 40,000 Crore.


Process has been started by the Ministry for procuring high speed train sets which will improve average rate of passenger carrying trains thereby reducing journey time.


For Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project using Shinkansen Technology, MoU between India and Japan signed. A new thing named National High Speed RaExtension of newly introduced cancellation facility for PRS
High Speed Rail Corporation Limited has been set up in February, 2016 to execute the project


Further high speed studies are being conducted by Ministry of Railways on Diamond Quadrilateral High Speed Rail network. Feasibility studies of Delhi- Mumbai, Mumbai- Delhi and Chennai - Kolkata are underway. The feasibility studies of Delhi- Mumbai and Nagpur –Nagpur hallways are being taken up with Chinese and Spanish governments through G2G alliance respectively


Ministry of Railways found Gatimaan Express, state’s first semi high speed train with a maximum speed of 160 kmph between Agra and Delhi heralding a new age of high speed rail travel in India

PASSENGER SERVICES & AMENITIES

62.During 201415, the Railways’ total gains were Rs.157880.50 crore, registering an increase of 12.16 per cent over last year.
63.During 2014 15, Railways carried 1097.578 million tonnes of revenue earning freight, showing an increase of 4.18 per cent over the last year.
64.Railways succeeded in attaining the 91.1% goal of operating ratio in 2014 15 which is an advancement over 93.6% reached in 2013-14.
HIGH SPEED TRAINS
65.Interim Report of feasibility study by Japan for Bullet Train on Mumbai-Ahemdabad corridor received. The final report expected in June. China to undertake feasibility study of introducing Bullet Train on New Delhi-Chennai hallway.
MISCELLANEOUS
66. Indian Railways given helping hand through the Nepal earthquake tragedy by transporting Nepal evacuees and by supplying ‘Rail Neer’ bottles. Likewise, Railways also helped during the J&K floods. In extending help to the Indian nationals returning from Yemen also Railways were in the forefront.
